FANWAY

Previously, I was talking about my general life before FANWAY. Now, how did I come about finding FANWAY? Another question you might be asking, why is it called 'FANWAY'? Let's begin, as I was working in local government for some time, planning activity started to slow and tasks were becoming limited.

The year is also 2020, the year of bushfires, COVID-19 pandemic, Black lives matter protests, and political disputes. Also during this time I stayed home and  was working from home which made it tricky to work and communicate with fellow colleagues, family and friends.

In the midst of all the unfortunate circumstances I thought to myself about finding better ways to help others, to ensure them a sense of stability, safety and fortitude. With my experience and skills in planning I believed that I can provide a service that would be better towards helping other overcome challenges in their daily lives.

As a Strategic/Town planner in local government my role was to analyse and forecast development opportunities within a local community, suburb or town. Upon my revelation towards providing a planning service for people I started brainstorming, researching and sketching. Sketching? It was for my logo.

So I began, again, contemplating some more to find aspects that can reflect myself into a brand and the services to be provided. In the process I was thinking about my Cantonese heritage and started playing around with Chinese characters and Chinese ping-yin. 'Ping-yin' means pronunciation.

Afterwards, I found some characters that suits the scope of my brand, the characters were (fàn-wéi) which means range, scope or extent. So, there you have it, in the end I decided to spell it as 'FANWAY' instead of the Chinese pronunciation because it also reflects my way of life as an Aussie.

You can say it's a fusion of cultural words. Oh yeah, I forgot about the logo design. Well, not much to add about it but it is shaped as a fan made with the name 'FANWAY'. The fan symbolises my Cantonese heritage and the purpose of the fan is to provide a good range of wind to help people cool down during hot weather.

TURNING ROADS INTO THE NEW RAIL

(Image Source: Committee for Geelong) I have noticed that there are more roads than rail in a lot of nations. Where there is rail most are built underground and out of sight from the public to ensure the peace of a setting. Same goes for roads that connect via a tunnel system. Pre-pandemic, authorities and citizens have talk about more efficient public transport and majority propose the conventional land transports such as bus, heavy rail, light rail and taxis. As I said, I noticed there are more roads than rails being built. especially in Sydney, Australia where I reside. Why not have hybrid transportation as a solution to the public transport dilemma? Unfortunately, a pandemic has hit Sydney and the globe. Now people with a private car have resorted to driving as a means to physically distant themselves from the risk of COVID infections, which is understandable. Eventually, the pandemic will pass although it would a slow transition back to use of public transport but it will happen. ...
